Tourism BC Hosts a Vancouver Night in Tokyo

Tourism BC in partnership with Air Canada recently hosted a Vancouver Night event in the Aoyama-Omote Sando district of Tokyo. On December 24th 2008, 250 guests attended a Vancouver and BC themed evening with wine, food and entertainment all dedicated to the remarkable experiences BC has to offer. The attendees consisted of subscribers to Tourism BC’s monthly e-magazine, avid fans of BC who frequently blog about their travels throughout the province. The event included a mini travel fair with a variety of specialized tour operators including ISM Inc., Long-stay Foundation, Fellow Travel, Apple World, Canadian Network and Travel Station. A travel consultation desk was also set up to answer any questions about travel options and BC.
The master of ceremonies for the night was famous host of Tokyo FM, Tomoko Chris who has hosted her show multiple times in Vancouver. Japanese long-distance runner, Masako Chiba spoke to the group and shared her experiences of competing in the Vancouver International Marathon and later guests were serenaded by Dew, a ladies acoustic duo who spent time studying in Vancouver. The evening also included a photography exhibition where guests could view ski and snowboard pictures of BC, a popular activity among Japanese travelers.
This event proved to be a great success and provided some valuable insight into this important travel market. “We are always looking for creative ways to link independent travelers with the right information and booking channels for their unique travel preferences and Vancouver Night was an opportunity to connect these travelers with the appropriate tour operators,” said Cindy Gobin, Marketing Development Manager, Asia/Pacific, Tourism BC. “We are always amazed at the in-depth knowledge they have of BC and how they refer friends and family to HelloBC.com. There was much enthusiasm amongst the group at this event.”
