Tourism Industry Conference
2009 BC Tourism Industry
Conference – Stronger Together

Program Highlights | How to Register

February 11-13, 2009
Hyatt Regency Vancouver

The theme of this year’s conference, Stronger Together, is certainly a timely one in light of both industry opportunities and current economic uncertainties.

As we head into arguably one of the most challenging - yet exciting- times for tourism in our province, we want to ensure you and your organization are part of the important dialogue that will take place during these three days in Vancouver.  The program for this year's conference is focused on being responsive to issues facing the industry, specifically the current economic situation we find ourselves in.

Your attendance at the 2009 BC Tourism Industry Conference is vital to gaining a clearer understanding of what the future may hold, as well as knowledge and tools that will allow you to navigate your way successfully through these uncertain times.

Program highlights:

Keynote speaker, Michael Campbell
Michael Campbell is British Columbia’s best known business analyst. As host of Canada’s top rated financial show, MoneyTalks, he is heard nationally across the Corus radio network. His uncanny calls on the Canadian dollar, stocks and the current economic malaise have him in great demand.  Mr. Campbell will set up a dynamic day of dialogue and leave operators, marketers and regulators with a greater understanding of the current economic volatility and the tools available to help operators stay in business.

Economy and Tourism – Global Perspective
We are pleased to welcome Craig Wright, Chief Economist for the Royal Bank and Geoffrey Lipman, Assistant Secretary-General for the United Nations World Tourism Organization.  These two men, both leaders in finance, public policy and business will share key insights into the dynamic and complex nature of our global economy.

Trends in Air Transportation You Need to Know
Past trends suggest tourism demand recovers fully from dips in GDP and shocks like the terrorism attacks of 9/11, SARS and conflict like the war in Iraq. Do these trends still matter? What are the airlines doing to keep profitable in the current economic situation and what impacts does this have on tourism in BC?

Border Performance
Increasing costs and delays are a major tourism concern. At this session you will here about a joint industry, government and academic initiative to gauge the performance of the Canada – US border.
