British Columbia Magazine is 50 this year!

BC MagazineBritish Columbia Magazine is often called “the National Geographic of British Columbia.” And with good reason: since its launch in 1959, British Columbia’s geographic and travel quarterly has won more than 100 international awards for its outstanding articles and photography. This year, the magazine celebrates a particularly momentous event in its publishing history—its 50th anniversary.

“I love the cover line on that first issue, Summer 1959: ‘48 pages of sparkling colour,’ says Anita Willis, editor. “That was before even LIFE magazine had published a full-colour issue.” This will be a banner year for British Columbia Magazine, with two very special issues. Summer 2009, the anniversary issue, will showcase the very best of B.C. travel, outdoors, and adventure with a one-of-a-kind package of “50 things to do in B.C. before you die.” And Winter 2009, scheduled for release in December 2009, will set the stage for the Vancouver 2010 Winter Games with an exciting Olympic-themed issue.

“We plan to mark this anniversary milestone with a year of media campaigns, enhanced tradeshow participation, special anniversary events, and new partnerships,” says Jane Nahirny, promotions coordinator for the magazine’s 50th year. “This is a great year to get inside British Columbia Magazine.”
